Repair Question

A friend of mine made the mistake of placing this soap dish humidifier up against the side of his Oribe flamenco guitar. You can see the damage black spot in the photo. The sides are finished with Cardinal Lacquer. Have tried a light rubbing compound with no luck. Any ideas out here on a fix, other than a total refinish of the side? I read that someone has used olive oil.

Any of you here that live in a dry climate or even New York with winter heaters going, think about making one of these soap dish humidifiers. I have found a grout sponge from your local ACE Hardware on Home Depot works better than the type that comes with commercial humidifiers, with synthetic sponges. I can wet one and two weeks later it is still damp. I live below Tucson, Arizona. Humidity drops to 5% – 10% sometimes. The humidifer show has a regular B-flat kitchen spounge (inside joke), some here will understand.
